My Mia has a soft cotton coat and I do use a clipper and scissors on her. She has a thick dark coat so I leave her's fairly short. I use a small peanut clipper to trim the tips of their ears and their private area. I use scissors for everything else. Oh, the clippers I use on Mia is a Wahl set that I got at WalMart that has combs included with it. I don't change the blades like some do. I use a larger comb to start with and go smaller if that doesn't take off enough hair. I never clip down to the skin so I can't tell you what size to use for that. I always leave at least an inch on Mia's body. I think the face takes me the longest. Again, I use scissors. It's a lot of trial and error. I bought a DVD about grooming Yorkies that actually listed all the things you need and showed 3 cuts you can do on a Yorkie. It helped alot but I still do mine different. How about some pictures of your Louis so that we can see what you're wanting to do? |
Thanks for responding to my question. I am not exactly sure what I want to do to his hair. LOL. I think I like the idea of having the hair on his body about an inch long. I would like the hair cut shorter on his legs, and kept a little longer on the face. (Kind of like a Westie cut) I don't know if that would look right. I think that I am going to buy the clippers from Walmart. What do you do about the hair on Mia's legs? Do you use scissors or clippers? I am not sure how to post pics, but I do have a couple of Louis in my album. Louis has thin, silky hair btw. (Your dogs are so cute!)
