Extreme pain after rabies vaccine Mya had her first rabies vaccine today, and so far it has not been a good day! When we got home she was sleepy, so I forced big brother Oliver (who was SO happy to see Mya came back, I think he thought she was leaving for good) to chill and not bother her. (He's now sulking in protest of that one, lol). I went to pick Mya up to take her outside at around 4 and she screamed out in pain - and I do mean screamed. Ever since then anytime I so much as touch her, she screams. Unfortunately, I do have to pick her up every now and again as she has only learned how to go up the stairs - not down.
I'm assuming this is a normal reaction, much like how badly the H1N1 flu shot hurt when I got it... Anyone else deal with this? Does it happen every time? She has to get another in a year, and then goes to once every 3 years. Is there anything I can do for her to help speed up recovery, other than keep her calm and quiet? It is so hard to pick her up knowing the pain it will cause her.. it's breaking my heart!
