Just to add... a sock or any dry material will act like a sponge in the system, which can cause dehydration issues and possibly could cause the object to adhere to the tissues anywhere along the alimentary tract (mouth to butt). Rapid removal then could cause ripping or tearing of those tissues, causing internal bleeding, etc.
