Animal Smiley 049 Legitimate Rescue?

So I have found an adorable pup at a rescue site in NC through petfinder. They have their own website.org and i have contacted them regarding a puppy. I was given what I find to be a high "adoption fee" of 750, with 50 back once I have proof of neuter. I can see both sides of the fee, as many dogs are surrendered and need extensive medical care and a higher fee for a cute puppy is a good way to bring in money to help care for these dogs. My concern with this particular situation is that I was told these puppies are not the first surrender and that the breeder has surrendered her females through the rescue in the past, once they were too old to breed. Now the lady is going to stop breeding all together and has surrendered this litter. Does this sound legitimate to anyone? Has anyone has issues with a particular nc rescue? I realize that the fee is high, but not unreasonable for a yorkie pup and that is not what i am questioning. I just do not want to get scammed in a puppymill pretending to be a rescue.
