Here's my opinion and my opinion only. AKC holds other events and is not only involved with conformation and companion events. The are also involved with Responsible Pet Ownership. Meet the Breed. Therapy Groups. Canine Good Citizen. etc. They are also involved with Pet Legislation. So, if you are one of the many that obtained an AKC pup, by registering your dog, you are automatically a memeber to the AKC. What that membership does is give you the opportunity to have a voice in a lot of those events, and changes. It's not all about showing.
