CKC registered your friends dog, but it means nothing. What it means is that the dog's parents were a yorkie and a poodle.
AKC is a Purebred registery and keeps track of parentage via "Stud Books"

APRI
and others, will register mixed breeds, but, it does not register them as abreed until itself. In otherwords your friends dog is Yorkie Poo, it's a mixed breed, but not a recognized breed.
