Check with your vet, most can be dosed with a different product somewhere between 4 days and 2 weeks, depending on the product.
Yes, it can be contageous... know as Scabies in humans... My vet and doctor said newest info is no treatment required to the house or clothing, they like to stay on skin. When I got it from my dog... I didn't do anything, except get a creme from my Doc, and use the Revolution on all my pets, cats included. I did launder my clothes, or placed them in plastic bags until time to wash... just to ease my mind.
Mine were traveling red bumps, under the skin at my waist, itched worse at 4-5 PM every day, and sometimes intermittantly at other times..
Coconut is also bug repellant....
