I'm not sure why others are saying it happened during a heat~did I miss something?
The risk of bleeding complications during a heat is increased because the blood flow to the uterus increases and becomes more vascular. Spays that are done during a heat are more to address unexpected or at risk pregnancy which is just another reason to spay and neuter your pets.
