My first yorkie Oscar (who passed away over a year ago) had his leg operated on only a couple months after we got him - maybe he was 16 months old.

He was fine within a couple days, the only thing I would have done differently was to pin up the good leg for a while to force him to build back the muscle in the bad leg. He could use them both great, but when he would run fast the bad leg would fly out to the side.

It is a very common disease in yorkies, my breeder even paid for the surgery because it was within the contract.
