Congrats! How old is the puppy? When I got Bella she would only eat out of my hand for the first month which was a pain (and time consuming) but eventually I put the bowl on my lap, then on the ground next to me sitting on the ground, then in the kitchen. It took awhile but it worked. If the puppy will only eat out of your hand though you should continue to do so because they can get very ill easily if they don't eat.

I dont know why she was giving the puppy away maybe it was too much of a responsibility for her, and if its healthy than it couldn't be because it was going to be a financial burden.

You could ask her to be honest and tell you why she wants to give away such a nice, well adapted little pup.
