I love my Roomba, it does a great job on the day to day cleaning of my floors which are all hard surface, don't have any idea how it does on carpets. It doesn't get into the corners so once a week (or once a year
) I still have to clean by the old fashioned method. You probably couldn't do a whole house on one battery charge so I bought an extra.
I also have a Scooba (that washes floors). I don't use it on my hardwood but it says you can. It is a little more tempermental but when it works it does a great job on my ceramic tile floors.
