I keep my females on dry Chicken Soup puppy food throughout their pregnancy. I add a little canned Pedigree Healthy Digestion or Pedigree Chopped Chicken to the dry food.

After the pups are born I give the nursing mommas 1/2 Doc Roy's Healthy Bones in the morning and 1/2 at bedtime. The Healthy Bones are comparable to the Pet-cal but my dogs like the Healthy Bones better. You can get either of these from Revival Animal Health Products. After the pups are born I keep the mommas on the same diet they were on prior to whelping except I give them some canned Pedigree Lamb and Rice puppy food with their dry puppy food. If you have a momma that is a picky eater you can add a little yogurt, cottage cheese or a scrambled egg to their diet. Mine love egg noodles so I always add a few of them to their meal. I sometimes have to hand feed the mommas the first few days since they don't want to leave their babies.

Once the pups are born it is essential that the momma eats about 4 times a day. The last big meal should be a bedtime since it is usually during the night that the pups really put a strain on the mommas calcium supply.
