You can do your dogs ears. And -- it's true - they don't like it.

But if you do it every once in a while - it's not bad - for either one of you.

I think the secrets are to get some of that powder or something that can give you a better grip on the hair (it just slides right through my fingers otherwise). Secondly - pull very quickly. It's like pulling a bandage off. It hurts more if you do it slowly. And, doesn't hurt much if you do it quickly.

Ears and clipping nails are easy to do at home - the more you do them, the better you get at it.

If your groomer does it - great! But otherwise, learn to do it yourself. It doesn't take much time.

PS: Believe it or not - I have a bird who needs his nails clipped. Now that's a challenge - but, I am going to give it a try!
