Yes and no. It was for the purpose service dogs, but not just because they were non-shedding. Throw a non-shedding breed with something else enough times and eventually you will get a non-shedding dog out of it. The breed's (I use that term because they ARE recognized in Australia now) originators focused on more than just a non shedding coat and continuously run test on the hair, coat, skin, dander and saliva and then test the results on those with allergies. So it was a bit more than just getting a non-shedding coat. (Does that make sense?)
