I can imagine a sunflower seed could do it. They're pointed at the end. We give Floyd, our M2, almonds, brazil nuts and walnuts in season. I constantly police his cage area when feeding those because of sharp shell pieces.

The only nuts (not shells) that I've heard of being harmful to dogs are walnuts and macadamia nuts. I think macadamia nuts are the most toxic. Of course, being allergic to anything would make it dangerous.
