Do you have a PC and Windows? Most computers come with Windows Movie Maker which is pretty simple to use, and sounds perfect for what you need. You can also make slideshows/etc and add music with this program. I have a Mac and I now use iMovie which I love, but Windows Movie Maker worked great for us!
