It should never be given without proper blood work prior. It should never be given on empty stomach nor given to a dog on steroids. I do not blame you for being afraid. My dog had one dose of metacam and was very sick throwing up and diarrhea could not swallow her food - had to be soaked down for a month for her to eat or she would throw up her food and she had colitis from it

Now she was given it by a vet on empty stomach and she was on temarilp which is a steroid and why she reacted so poorly but after reading about this no way and dr jean dodds who i respect told me NO NSAIDS and sent me a client sheet on it

also our board certified dentist will not prescribe nsaids he said he does not feel they are safe so he will only prescribe narcotics like tramadol for pain even though it does not have the anti-inflammtory agent. Fish oil is a natural anti-inflammatory and so are steroids like temarilp or predinisolone and prednisone and it is safe to give steroids and tramadol but never nsaid and steroids
oops did not mean steroids are natural lollll they are not naturally but would use them over an nsaid for inflammation even if they have risks
