We are leash training also. Fiona will be 1 and she has never been on leash. She never needed to until now.
I had some luck letting her drag it around for a while then walking slowly through the yard. When she walked without me pulling I acted like she had just spoken to me. I went crazy! She seems to respond to that.
I also tried treats but she is not food motivated. Still working on it but I do wish I had started earlier with her.
