You are probably right about the submissive action - because I had a yorkie for 10 years that only licked me once in those 10 years and he thought he was the King of the house ha ha. I loved him and still miss him but he really thought he was our Owner and would do whatever he wanted.
Now with Romeo, he loves to lick....face, ears, arms, legs after shower.....etc. And he is completely different in that he knows that I'm the "mommy".
