Default A Wandering Four-legged Visitor!!

Wow! This morning, I came home from the grocery store and saw this cute black and tan Dachshund waddling down the street across from my house. I'd never seen it before so I idly wondered who it belonged and hoped it didn't get run over. Well, the dog watched my car pull into the parking lot and then came trotting over to say hello, acting like it'd known me all my life. I saw it was a female and knelt down to pet her. She was super friendly, wagging her tail at me. She was wearing a collar, but no tags. I was at a loss what to do (and thinking about my milk and frozen stuff in the car).

I turned to unlock the door and the dachshund had her nose pointing at the base of the door patiently waiting on me to open it. She was totally planning to make herself at home!!! I stopped and called my husband to see if he'd ever seen the dog. While I'm standing there on the phone, the dog stretches and lays down in front of the door looking up at me with these adoring brown eyes. My heart absolutely melted! My husband said he thought he'd seen a woman walking a dog by that description a few times and he suggested that I take the dog down to the apartment office and see if they knew who she belonged to. (We live in a set of duplexes owned by the same company that also has a small apartment complex.) Well, I still had all my cold stuff that needed to get put in the fridge...

So I decided that since Chloe was in her crate in the bedroom and the bedroom door was shut, I'd go ahead and let my little visitor in the house as she seemed clean and well-behaved. Sure enough, as soon as I took out my keys, the dog jumped up and prepared to head inside. I quickly put Chloe's food up but let the dog drink out of her water bowl. She checked out my whole house and followed me as I went in and out unloading my groceries. She even stuck her head in my fridge! She never tried to jump on the furniture or make a mess or anything. Once I was finished, I grabbed a spare leash and walked her down to the office.

According to the lady in the office, she often visits around the neighborhood. She told me to just leave the dog in the office and she'd take care of it. I did...but I just can't quit worrying about the dog!! I was with her all of about ten minutes but got attached quick! If she was mine, I'd sure take better care of her and not let her wander the streets.
