I was a bit flabergasted, since I never expected this question from this lady. I didn't lose my cool, but reiterated the pet only contract. Her answer was but, she's so adorable and I want one litter out of her, she wanted to stud her with one of my boys and would do it all with my instruction. I went on to tell her that if I wasn't willing to keep her, to Champion her and keep her in my breeding program, why would I allow her to. That still didn't penetrate.....My final question to her was are you willing to lose your girl? Her girl was spayed the following week. |
before i spayed milu, i had considered breeding her once (and keep every single one of her babies). i had a few breeders approach me when they saw milu and ask if i was going to show her and breed her. so i thought that if i think she is perfect, that's normal, everyone thinks their babies are perfect, but if breeders and my vet tells me she is perfect, then i should definitely consider it. i didn't know anything about breeding, so i posted here in breeder section for help, i also contacted other breeders asking them for their advice.
i was told about the 5lb rule, but my vet didn't think it was a deal breaker, he told me that milu is a healthy beautiful dog with a great temperament and if you don't breed dogs like this, then what dogs do you breed. but he did tell me that he cannot make the decision for me and that with small dogs there are more risks of course.
i really think milu is perfect, so i even thought that maybe an experienced breeder can breed her and help me with everything. but then the deal breaker for me is when i was told that she can die from this. so as soon as that possibility was mentioned to me, i made up my mind easily at that point.
