thanks for sharing your story, i think you need pet stairs!!! more importantly, you should NEVER bend over!!! i am one of those folks with big time back problems (though not quite as bad as yours) and i CAN'T bend over!! i always go to the floor/ground on one knee and go from there. maybe doing that would help you

Do yourself a favor and get pet stairs: they learn rapidly and it can be a godsend for those who can't bend over. If you've read this forum for very long, there are always pros and cons for every single thing you ask. In the end, you have to make the choice that best fits YOUR needs.
i think you are right, there are pros and cons for every thing you ask. for instance, although i would prefer a puppy, i decided to get a full grown dog so that i could be sure about the adult weight of the dog, which cannot be guaranteed. but i certainly don't think i am required to "justify the 'need' for a smaller dog". everyone has to determine what is right for them in their particular situations, but i don't think anyone has to "justify" anything. if i want a smaller dog, trust me, i'm going to have one ... and because i'm the one payin' the bills around here, guess who gets to decide?!?
