I start weaning at 5 wks, letting pups nurse once a day & leaving Mom with them at night for 2 or 3 nights & then once a day for a couple of days. By that time Mom should be starting to dry up. I keep moist food & dry food down for the pups all the time & as they get teeth & you see them eating the dry start decreasing the wet food. If they get loose stools you are probably feeding to much. I would feed Mom only dry food through this time to help her dry up, assuming she doesn't eat as much when it is dry.
