Actually you are teaching them. You are teaching them that with that behavior (biting) they aren't going to receive attention and you've had it with the biting and play. Ignoring them is the punishment. It's a quick way to stop the behavior and with repetition they learn that the behavior doesn't earn them any rewards or positive reinforcement. It's basic Psychology 101.
