I think they are just silly fun. In theory, I bought Thor a pair because when he sticks his head out the window, his hair blows into his eyes, and I'm sure it's not comfortable for him. OTOH, I'm not sure he finds the doggles particularly comfortable either.

They do stay on well, and honestly, they are darling. There's a thread in Pictures with doggled dogs right now.
