Well I don't have a problem with my Maltese since she's so hyper, she starts barking her head off and jumping while circling and running all at once and does the bunny dance standing with her hind legs and clapping her front paws. Even man who are 6ft tall get scared of my lil one
Some even look like there confronting a big pitbull or something. And all she wants to do is play. My yorkie on the other hand is so timid but she's learning to do the dance also.
I don't believe it's ok to hug/carry them but I do let people pet my girls, while I'm holding them. I believe is a good way for my dogs to socialize.
