I've taught Rio the "leave it" command so she knows not to pick up something off the floor. I would place a piece of food on the ground and if she tried to take it I would tell her "Leave it" in a firm voice and once she stepped back she got a treat. Then I would move the piece of food closer to her and if she tried to take it, again I would say "leave it" and once she turns away I would praise her and give her a treat. Now I can toss a piece of food right at her feet and if I tell her "Leave it" she stops and just looks at me.
This is such an important command so that your furbaby doesn't eat anything dangerous - like a dropped prescription pill etc... |
