You know Lou when I sat down to write about what happened I thought about your thread about Adie as well as the collar/no collar debate. It really made me think about what would have happened if they did not have on their collar and tags. What if whoever picked that up didn't know about microchipping? I know that PAWS (our shelter) would have been able to locate me since that is where they were chipped at last summer (Pebbles is not chipped yet) but they would have had to take them there to be scanned. I could have been hours before that happened. I'm positive that by then I would have either died from a heart attack or been committed! We didn't even know they were gone and they were able to get so far!

I know that there is always a chance that something could happen but I have never been so happy for a collar and tags when I got that first phone call today.

I KNOW Jodi! That is exactly why I had collars on them in the first place. (Because my neighbors might return them quickly and might not know about microchips.) but since DH was the one that was home with them he absolutely refuses to THINK about collars. We got cat-break-aways but he takes them off when he leaves the house or goes down to the basement to work. Then he won't put them back on. I get home from work and have to put them on myself while listening to him talk about how I wasn't the one there and how he never wants to go through that again. I finally gave up. Fortunately the little town we moved to only has about 300 people in it and everyone has seen me walking the dogs and most of them have stopped me to talk about them so if anyone gets out I'm pretty sure they would be brought back to my house. Traffic is also pretty light with 25 mph speed limits. (Of course that didn't keep me from running over a cat a few months ago!) Sigh.
