My boy is a little over a year and a half and he does the same thing. He eats till he's full but only when playing. I toss a ball. He fetches. He runs over to his food and water bowls and puts the ball either under the bowls, in one of the bowls, or on the bar of the food bowl stand. He will eat one, and only one. Then bring the ball. If he's really hungry, after 4-5 tosses of the ball he just stays at the bowl until he's full then he will bring the ball and it's play play play. He's so weird.
