Well, I may have just been extremely blessed with Chloe, but she kind of taught herself to sit still for me when I go to put a bow in. Sometimes if she gets to turning her head to try and lick my hand, I'll talk to her in my "puppy" voice, asking her to be still and saying just a few more minutes, etc. The first several times I put a bow in her hair, I'd have my husband help out. Chloe would sit in his lap and I'd kneel in the floor beside him. He'd kind of keep her occupied and hold her head still for me while I fought with the bow. Then one day, he wasn't around and I didn't have the patience to wait so I just thought I'd see how it went. I had to try a couple of times because I'm still learning to operate the bands, but she was super patient and sat for me till I was finished.
I also always let her sniff her the brush and bow before we get started. Once she realizes what it is, she doesn't fight to try to figure out what I'm doing with the top of her head. If I forget to let her sniff, then she's constantly trying to get her nose up to my hands and it's impossible. I don't think I put her first bow in until she was a good five months old either. I'm sure the younger they are, the more like little wiggle worms they become.
Good luck!! It's sure worth it once you get them trained to be still, cause they look adorable with bows! Now that it is easier to up the bows in, I do it more often.
