The simplest way I can think of describing a cottony coat is a pup who never outgrows puppy hair. It's soft and fluffy and might even curl at times. Not all yorkies have the beautiful silky straight coats the standard calls for. I hear it mentioned a lot from breeders that the silky coat is hard to acquired.
I've never heard it called a "wooly" coat before.
