We've been using frontline on our three dogs since they were little tots. Barney and Daisy are almost 10 and we've never had any issues.

I know that peppermint, lemongrass, and geranium essential oils are said to repel fleas and ticks but I've never tried these on my dogs because dogs are sensitive to essential oils so I worry about spritzing my dogs with these solutions or putting drops of essential oils on their collars. I am not sure how much etc so I just stick with frontline. We have ticks in our area so I don't want to risk it.

Maybe this can give you a start in researching some natural flea/tick repellant ideas.
