It does get better, you have to be patient and persistent, but working a few minutes everyday grooming and she will get used to the process.
Starting out, I always talked to Ruby while I was brushing and fixing her top knot, telling her how pretty she looked, what a good girl she is, etc. Also, you can give her treat pieces while you're grooming.
