You don't say....but I'm assuming this is a new born pup? If so....DO NOT FEED MILK FORMULA TO A COLD PUPPY! You will not save him......a cold puppy cannot digest formula. A puppy needs
warmth, energy and sleep it's first few days. For warmth.....get a man's tube sock.....put in 1 to 1 1/2 cups of uncook white rice....tye a knot in the end. Put in microwave for 1 to 2 minutes. Shake well to elimate hot spots......place puppy on sock. Pup will move away if warm or crawl on top of sock if cool.
Puppy should be kept at 95 to 99 degrees get a temp gauge for the whelp box.
For energy make a clucose solution of:
1 tsp white corn syrup
a few grains of salt
4 TBS of boiled water
Feed this to puppy with a syringe if he has NO sucking reflex. Give SLOWLY....give 1 cc every hour until puppy is thriving with a sucking reflex. Also you can try the liver receipe below. A six ounce puppy needs about 45 cc of fluids daily. So you need to work out the formula for your pup. i.e. a 3 ounce pup needs about 20 to 25 cc of fluids per DAY. This should work out to 7.5 cc per ounce per DAY.
Get cows beef liver......boil in a small amount of water. Drain this liquid off into a cup. Feed 4 drops to puppy every 2 hours until puppy is thriving.....then 4 drops about every 4 hours. Continue this until puppy is stronger. Then either put on mom or bottle feed with a preemie (human) nipple.
Oh and did you check for cleft palate.....these puppies rarely survive.
