For some people who live in rural areas or very small towns, changing vets is out of the question. There aren't any for them to change to. I also feel it is a good thing and shows intelligence to question the decisions of your vet and get as much information as possible. Some of us on here have dealt with small doggies all of our lives and that is much longer than some of these vets have been in business. I'm glad we live in a society where there is the freeflow of information and I consider myself as fully capable to discern what is best for my doggie. It is my decision in the end; not my vet's.
