Possible trachea collapse We were told over the weekend by our "GP" vet that my dog's trachea had collapsed, but not thankfully in the thoracic area. After already having one dog to die from this horrendous condition, we acted fast and kept her calm, cool and away from irritants (pollen which is at 6,000 at this writing). Today my husband took her x-rays to a specialist who puts stents in Yorkies and said, that her condition was not at a point to where we'd want to do this. They also have problems with dogs who actually cough up stents. What he did notice was that she has an enlarged heart and this is pressing on her airway and putting added strain on her lungs. We did not take our dog in, but scheduled a consult with the specialist, because we knew that the moment she would enter another vet's office she'd begin to get excited and start to honk again. I would suggest doing this, if you just want a 2nd opinion. |
