What you have described is often referred to as "breaking color." It's the normal transition you see when standard colored Yorkies begin to change from the black/gold they are as pups to the standard, steel blue coat. Also, not uncommon for pups to have a white spot on their chest. If you had a Parti Yorkie, it would be VERY obvious.
