I prefer waiting until later, after their growth plates have closed, as to not to interfer with their with their growing pattern and maturity developement. In my opinion 8 weeks a bit too young, not willing to take that chance on a wee one.
I agree. I'm a big advocate on spay and neuter however, totally disagreed with the rescue I volunteer with when they did a spay on a 13 week old Yorkie, who I have since adopted. Lilly is now three years old, and weighs just under five pounds. At 13 weeks old she wasn't even two pounds. In my oppinion the risks of spay or neutering at such a young age and small size out weigh the good it will do. Elaine
