My 2 cottony coated girls got pretty matted this past month when I was at the nursing home with my Dad. I usually brush them regularly but since I knew my Dad's time with me was limited I spent a lot of time with him and was so exhausted when I got home I let their grooming slide. Luckily my DH was home and took great care of then except for the grooming part. Sadly my Dad passed 2 weeks ago and I have been working on Cali and Roxie's coat daily and I have broken down and they will be going to a professional groomer wednesday. In the mean time I have been putting emu oils and detangling sparys on and each day spend time working out some of the matts. I did cut some off as they both have thick coats and you can't tell from the outside. I will have the groomer shave their tummies and cut their leg hair short. I would try taking Riley to a good groomer and see what they think they can do that won't be too hard on him and the brush him daily.
