I would keep the dish, continue to put bring it out each Easter and use it. Then when your son has children you can share the candy dish and jelly beans with your grandbaby. Leave it to your son in your will.

Boys are really odd birds, I bet he would "love to have it", but would at the same time feel sad that the dish wasn't where it was supposed to be.
