I just returned from my first trip with my yorkie and I must say that it was not the most enjoyable experience that I've had! I agree with the others that said that they don't like to use sedatives. I tried a sedative on the first trip and I can honestly say that it didn't help at all. It made my baby a little weak but she still cried and clawed the whole trip. The flight attendants on the way down were very nice. They allowed me to hold the bag on my lap and one of them even told me that I could take her out and hold her. However, on the way home this was not the situation. They made me keep her under the seat the entire time and I was not allowed to even hold the bag on my lap. I also had a few cranky people around me (obviously not dog people) that kept giving me dirty looks throughout the flight. I was so upset that I wanted to cry. If they would just let me hold her, she wouldn't cry and disturb the other passengers. My flight was only 2 1/2 hours but it seemed like eternity. I don't mean to scare anyone from traveling with their yorkie. I was on vacation for 10 days and there is no way that I would have left her. We had so much fun together on vacation! I think that it all depends on what flight attendants you get. Some play by the rules and some don't. Also, it is a definite MUST to get your yorkie used to the carrier a long time before the travel date. I found that mine loved the carrier when we were at home but it was a much different situation when we were actually on the airplane!!! Motion sickness can also be a problem. We had a few issues with that as well. I will definitely fly with her again but it probably won't be for a while It was stressful but worth it.
