We have oak hardwood upstairs, nice thick wood. It's beautiful. Freeway was 22 pounds and never a scratch. Oliver doesn't spend much time up there, but he doesn't scratch it up either. I think it depends on the kind of wood you get. You really have to spend the $ and get something durable.
