When my dd was 6 we lived in the country. She is blind as a bat without her glasses. In the middle of winter the water line from our house to our lagoon broke. Our basement was heated with a wood stove. (all this is pertinent info, LOL) Well, one morning I hear a shrill of a scream come from the basement where my DD was. I dropped everything and ran down there and stopped cold in my tracks at the top the last stair and to my surprise!

She said.."I thought it was dog poop but it jumped at me when I stepped over it." And right there on the floor in front of the stove, getting warm, all coiled up, was a "MAD!" baby bull snake, who came in through that broken line. It struck at her when she stepped over it. LOL! We love to tease her about it to this day when she is outside. We tell her to watch out for "piles of dog poop that moves!" Mind you, my dog at the time, did not have a habit of pooping in the house..........
