My Gracie had both knees done at the same time, at about the same age. She has had a great outcome. It was a long road with recovery and rehab so you will need to plan for that. Looking back I think it was probably a lot harder on me than it was on her. I posted several threads about my experiences. My Holly needs surgery on her left patella, as soon as I can afford it I will have it done.
