Absolutely you can do both.
I have a friend who is a handler and whose granddaughter began handling/showing at about 9....she's now 14, in high school, is a marvelous handler, out handles her grandmother (who by the way has taken several yorkies to the top 10). Last year at the Oklahoma Specialty, the yorkie she was handling took the Best In Specialty title....So, juggling school with handling can be done.
