Cindy, i tried the link about Alex but there's not much there. I assume you're talking about Alex, the African Grey. He was an awesome bird but died too young. I think he was around 26 when he died and a Grey's life span is 60 - 80 years.
Now that is strange...it was there when I posted...ok better check I have underwear on...another strange moment...and yes that is who I am talking about...

I have never heard shelters following the HSUS guidelines but when I read the guidelines they are very wishy washy so don't sure if any of it really matters. I know the shelter I worked with in Tucson had much stricker guidelines on top of those.
