I would try anything before a shot. Have you tried anti-itch shampoos? How about an oatmeal-based shampoo. I know some vets even carry shampoos for doggies with allergies. Anyway, I'd try that sort of thing before looking toward shots. If nothing else worked, then I'd see the vet. Have you looked at his skin to see if it is red or might have any sores or raw spots?
