Mary, I knew they were protective and I actually had a sheltie when I was growing up that saved me from drowning when I was 5. I walked out of my house and walked down to the lake. We lived in Orlando at the time. Lots of lakes there.She barked so much it woke up the guy that lived in the house closest to the lake and he came out and picked me up just as I was about to step off into the lake.
But this dog was way overboard. This was not the usual breed specific trait. She was very, very hyper. I knew animals traits from working at the vets all those years. Even my vet said she was off.
