Sherpa makes specific "soft" carriers that are airline approved. They are not all that soft....they are quite sturdy and very well made. The nice thing about the soft carriers is that they are a bit flexible when putting under the seat. A hard plastic one has no room for error.... it either will fit or it won't, and if it doesn't you are bumped.
