I can't give you a detailed answer since I'm not a breeder and don't know, but I can tell you as long as you are feeding only dog food, they cannot get too fat for at least the first 6 months, so they really can't gain too much. Puppies have growth spurts and some days they will eat more than others. It sounds like he's gaining really well, in 2 1/2 weeks he's gained 6 oz, and that's around 2 ounces a week, which is great! Here's a growth chart, and remember it's just an estimate, give or take a pound.
